Anodizing Treatment
Anodizing
Type I anodizing, also known as chromic acid anodizing, is an electrochemical process that converts the surface of aluminum into a thin, hard, and durable layer of aluminum oxide. The process is accomplished by passing an electric current through the aluminum part while it is immersed in a chromic acid solution.
Below is the type I anodizing process:
1. Clean and degrease the aluminum part to remove contacminants on the surfce.
2. Immerse the aluninum part into a chromic acid solution.
3. There will be an electric current pass through the part and causes the aluminum to oxidize and form a thin layer of aluminum oxide on the surface.
4. Rinse and dry the part.
5. Give your desired color on any place of this part.
Type I anodizinghas the below advantage and disadvantage:
Advange: Type I anodizing is a relatively simple and low cost process, and it can be performed on a variety of aluminum alloys. The chromic acid anodizing process is the oldest and most widely used type of anodizing. It produces a thin anodic coating, typically 0.0001 to 0.001 inches thick. This coating is very hard and durable, and it provides excellent corrosion resistance. Type I anodizing is also very good at electrical insulation.
Disadvantage: Type I anodizing is processed in chromic acid solution , chromic acid is a hazardous material, there is a risk to pollute the evenroiomen, so the anodizing process must be carefully controlled to avoid environmental contamination.
