CNC Machining Surface Treatment (Finish)

CNC machining can produce precision parts with strict tolerances, using various metals or plastic materials. Due to the subtractive nature of the machining process, there may be slight tool marks on the surface of the parts after machining. However, we can use various methods to improve the surface roughness, visual appearance, and wear resistance of CNC machined parts. The most common metal CNC machining surface treatments (Finish) listed below:


1. Oxidizing

Oxidizing is an electrolytic oxidation process that transforms the surface of a material into a protective film, making it resistant to oxidation and corrosion. This can extend the lifespan of the material and achieve various colors for appearance effects. Common Oxidizing treatments (Finish) include regular anodizing, brushed anodizing, hard anodizing, thick-film anodizing, and micro-arc oxidation. Materials that can undergo oxidation include aluminum alloys, magnesium alloys, titanium alloys, etc.

2.Electroplating

Electroplating is a process that uses an electric current to reduce dissolved metal cations, allowing them to form a thin, coherent metal coating on an electrode. The coating helps prevent corrosion and improves wear resistance, conductivity, reflectivity, and aesthetics.

Normally there are the below types of electroplating: Chrome Plating, Galvanization, Black Galvanization,Gold plating, Silver Plating, Black Nickel Plating,Tin Plating, Nickel Plating, Black Chrome Plating, Decorative Chrome Plating, etc.

3. Coating

The spray coating process involves spraying a coating onto the surface of an object to achieve the purposes of protection, decoration, and improving material properties. The principles of the spray coating process mainly involve the action of a spray gun and the coating material. The spray gun generates a high-velocity airflow by compressing air, atomizing the coating into fine particles, and then spraying it onto the object's surface to form a coating.

The coating treatment (Finish) has baking process, painting process, powder coating,teflon coating,ect.
